TESTIMONIALS ON "DESIGN AND CREATIVITY" WORKSHOP:
"Albert Barcilon has a superb color sense. Whether he is painting an abstract or landscape, his paintings
are imbued with wonderful light, movement, and interesting patterns. I asked Albert to give our quilt group a
design class because I thought the quilters would benefit from an artist’s viewpoint on composition.
We were not disappointed!"
-Carolyn Anderson,Thrilled to Pieces quilter, Lafayette, CO
"Albert’s workshop on creativity and design given in Sept 2007 was informative and educational, and most of all, fun!
His attention to each student and upbeat teaching style encouraged us to move out of our comfort zone and try
something different. It was a very liberating experience, and I feel that my work has developed a new energy and
excitement since taking the workshop".
-Nanci McCutcheon, Thrilled to Pieces quilter, Lafayette, CO
"At the quilter's workshop on "Design and Creativity," Albert proved himself to be a very capable teacher
and a kind and insightful critic. His lecture brought to life the harmony of line and color and the workshop
itself inspired each of us to create something completely fresh and new. It is a rare opportunity to discover
something within oneself and Albert artfully led us there".
-Gretchen Heuring, workshop participant, Longmont, CO
"Albert encouraged me to leave my comfort zone of realism by working with monoprint abstract designs.
I now have more confidence in breaking a picture down into its integral parts and creating dynamic
abstract quilt art".

TESTIMONIALS ON ART LESSONS FOR TEENAGERS:
"I wanted you to know what a great ‘art experience’ Lauren had while taking your classes in June. I believe that
few art instructors offer the quality of instruction that you provide. I was greatly impressed by the care you took
before classes even began to discover exactly the students’ abilities and desires, and by the way you tailored the classes
to make them a best fit for the students. It is so refreshing for kids to attend presentations that are not ‘dumbed down’.
At 14 years old that is important to them!
I know that you assume that if the students are in your class they are there because they are genuinely interested in the subject
matter and are serious about learning. With that said, it was also an enjoyable, relaxing time for Lauren and she looked forward
to every class day. I know she was excited about the chance to work in some new media and I certainly was quite pleased about her,
gaining more depth in her foundation knowledge of art and the art world.
As a matter of fact, Lauren has already taken what she learned with you to create some additional pieces.
I hope we are able to do this again next summer!

WORKSHOP OUTLINE
DATE: Monday August 4th, 2008,
WHERE: Art Work Space Studio #A, Boulder, CO 80301;
WHO LONG: 9:30AM ~ 4:30PM,
WORKSHOP COST: $80
INSTRUCTOR: Albert Barcilon,
www.albertbarcilon.com
CONTACT: barcilo2@indra.com
This workshop assumes that each participant is familiar with the medium he/she
has been working with and has had sufficient practice in painting in oil, or acrylic, or
pastels.
1. The morning will be devoted to a demonstration based on a landscape painted in oil.
I will start by using 2 photos/images which will provide the inspiration for the drawing;
As soon as I start painting I will no longer refer to these visual sources. Issues dealing
with preparation of support, line drawing vs. massing, values, composition and color will
be discussed as this composition is painted.
2. Lunch will be around 11:30 and during lunch I will be happy to provide advice
on some of your work in progress.
3. Bring one of your paintings in progress to work on in the afternoon. Bring a
Color-Wheel and a Value-Scale (Guiry’s).
4. Bring your box of colors be it oil or pastel, etc…. A cheese cloth used to erase
some of your oil paint is an excellent thing to have. That will stop the build-up of mud
in your image. Bring gloves it you use these, aprons, paper towel roll, etc…namely
bring whatever you are using in your home environment. I will provide you with a “green”
product to clean your brushes (See below).
5. If you have a portable (floor on table-standing) easel it may be a good idea if
you bring it for there are no easel in the room we will be using.
6. If after lunch some of you would prefer to work on a still life, I will be prepared
to set-up one up. Please let me know before the end of July if you would rather paint the
still-life instead of one of your images.
7. For those painting in oil please DO NOT use turpentine or odorless turpentine to avoid
having fumes in this room. Several artists have their workspace in this large room and we
should respect their work environment.
